This artwork was inspired by a fossilized form of an extinct scallop, Chesapecten jeffersonius, which lived in the early Pliocene epoch between four and five million years ago on Virginia's coastal plain. It is the state fossil of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States.
I tried to recreate a specific colour scheme common to these species in watercolour.
This artwork is unique and totally hand-drawn with archival quality watercolour paints on the 100% cotton paper by Saunders Waterford.
