The Spinosaurus was essentially the ultimate prehistoric river monster. Living about 95 million years ago in North Africa, it holds the title of the longest predatory dinosaur ever discovered—even stretching further than the famous T. Rex. You can easily spot one by that massive, five-foot-tall sail on its back and a long, narrow snout that looks a lot like a modern crocodile’s.
What makes it truly cool is that it was a semi-aquatic specialist, meaning it spent a huge chunk of its life in the water hunting giant fish. For a long time, everyone thought it just walked around on land, but recent fossil finds revealed it actually had a powerful, paddle-shaped tail and dense bones, which helped it swim like a giant, toothy seal. It’s a bit of a "rebel" in the dinosaur world because it’s one of the only ones we’ve found that was built specifically for a life at sea.
