Mosasaurus was a massive marine reptile that lived about 70–66 million years ago, near the end of the Cretaceous. It wasn’t a dinosaur — it was more closely related to modern monitor lizards and snakes. The largest individuals reached around 15–17 meters long and were apex predators in ancient seas.
It fed on fish, ammonites, seabirds, and even other mosasaurs. Its flexible, snake-like jaws helped it swallow big prey, and its shark-style tail made it a fast swimmer. Despite living in the ocean, it had to surface to breathe air. Mosasaurus went extinct during the same mass extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs.
