Goliathus regius is closely related to Goliathus goliatus and shares a similar shape and striking coloration. It is among the largest beetles in the world, with males reaching up to 115 mm (4.5 in) in length and females slightly smaller. The body is broad and flat, with pale wing covers marked by bold black patterns and a dark stripe running down the pronotum.
The larvae live underground and grow rapidly on a protein-rich diet. After about four months, they reach full size and form a chamber in the soil, where they transform into adults during the dry season. Adults typically emerge with the return of the rains. This species is found across western equatorial Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and surrounding regions.
This was inspired by one of the exhibits of entomology collection of National Natural History Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv. Now it showing in the Museum as a part of the ENTOMOCOSMOS project.
